Terry O’Brien

Terry began work in mainstream artist management in 1995 following completion of the post-graduate degree in Arts Administration.  In the 90s she ran training sessions for young managers for the MMF and ran the acoustic club Playpen, in Earls Court, which saw early performance by K T Tunstall and Tom Baxter among others.

She won the MMFs Music Export Award for Managers in 2003, in the same year that she established her own company, Playpen Management, with her first client, a young Jim Moray.  Her focus turned to folk, roots and acoustic music and within a couple of years she began concentrating on live performance agency, now working under the banner of Playpen Management & Agency.  During this time she also worked for One Little Indian Records (now One Little Independent Records) as an A&R consultant.  Past and current Playpen Agency clients include Jon Boden, Spiers & Boden, Lisa Knapp, Salsa Celtica, Sam Carter, Sam Sweeney, Daoirí Farrell, Jackie Oates, Grace Petrie and more.

In 2012 Terry raised funding for and founded English Folk Expo, the annual international showcase event for English folk, roots and acoustic music held in Manchester in October and now an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation.
